Bath sheets still clammy, a drum shrieking as it rotates, a control panel that won't wake up? Whether yours runs on gas or electricity, our Murphy technician diagnoses it on site so loads come out toasty and dry.
Whether it burns gas or runs on 240 volts, a clothes dryer tends to fail in a few familiar ways. Six of them are below, along with the hardware we inspect early.
The drum turns yet the load stays cold, typically from a heating coil with a break, a tired gas igniter, or a blown safety fuse.
Parts we check: heating coil, gas igniter, thermal fuse
Loads demand another round if the dampness sensor reads wrong, the cycling thermostat gets stuck, or the heater runs at half strength.
Parts we check: moisture sensor, cycling thermostat, heater
You hear the motor running while the drum doesn't move, a classic sign that the belt broke or the tensioner pulley has locked up.
Parts we check: drive belt, idler pulley, drive motor
Flattened support wheels, a rear bearing without grease and thin felt glides make each load a noisy affair.
Parts we check: drum rollers, rear bearing, drum glides
No sound and no lights may trace to a dead door switch, worn start contacts or an open thermal fuse.
Parts we check: door switch, start switch, thermal fuse
Cycles stop early once the motor runs too hot or a temperature sensor reports nonsense.
Parts we check: motor overload, thermistor, high-limit thermostat
Dryer styles
Budget models and premium built-ins alike come through our schedule. These logos cover most of what we open up in Murphy homes.

Midea and Crosley dryers flag a stopped cycle with the messages below. Look at the right-hand column to see whether a reset at home makes sense.
Midea
| Code | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| C9 | Control board failureThe main control board has failed. Stop using the dryer and arrange service. | Needs a technician |
| E4 | Humidity sensor failureSensor cycles may over-dry until a technician replaces the moisture sensor; timed cycles still work. | Needs a technician |
| E5 | Temperature sensor failureThe heat sensor has stopped working, so the dryer should not be used until it is replaced. | Needs a technician |
Crosley
| Code | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| PF | Power failureAn outage interrupted the cycle. Press and hold Start to resume; if Control Lock came on, hold it for three seconds first. | You can reset |
| L2 | Low line voltageThe heater is not getting full power. Touch any pad to clear it and check the breaker or fuse box. | You can reset |
| F1 E1 | Main control faultThe electronic control found an internal fault. When switching the breaker off for several minutes changes nothing, a technician is needed. | Needs a technician |
| F4 E1 | Heater system faultOn electric models, the heating element or its relays have a problem that needs testing. | Needs a technician |

Three short reviews from recent dryer calls.
Running every load of towels twice was driving our electric bill up. He found the worn part, replaced it and now one cycle is plenty.
The squeal is gone. That's all I wanted.
Hit start and the dryer stayed completely silent. I assumed it was finished. He tracked the problem down quickly and explained what had tripped so I'd recognize it next time.
When the dryer misbehaves, these four checks occasionally sort it out.
Empty the lint trap between loads; a full screen adds time to every cycle.
Electric dryers use a two-pole breaker. If one half trips, you get tumbling with no warmth.
Give the door a firm push so it latches. Many models simply won't run when it isn't fully closed.
A dab of rubbing alcohol on the shiny sensor bars near the door keeps moisture readings accurate.
